Vishu is the New Year festival of Kerala. This occasion signifies the Sun’s transit to the first zodiac sign as per Indian astrological calculations. Although Vishu is the astrological new year day of Kerala, the official Malayalam new year falls on the first month of Chingam (August – September). Chingam is the harvest season in Kerala. The most important event in Vishu is the Vishukkani, Which is the first sight to see in the morning after waking up. The Vishukkani consist of an arrangement of articles like raw rice, golden cucumber, fresh lemon, mirror, betel leaves, arecanut, konna flower (Cassia fistula), Metal vessel named Uruli, coins and a holy text. Metal lamp called nilavilakku is also placed aside the arrangement. This arrangement is done in the night before Vishu
Vishu_Haripad festival season
Vishukani and Vishu kaineetom is an important custom in haripad Subramanya swamy temple. Vishukani starts with the festival ceremony kodiyettom(temple flag hosting). Vishukaineetom has given to all devotees by temple priest..so many devotees gathered there for darshan (visit) on that day .it starts from early morning..Festival begins with kodiyetom, in evening ezhunallippu(gods idol in elephants chariot), every day from beginning to the tenth day of the festival.
